Counterfeit Kit Challenge March Reveal

Wow it is March already and time for a new inspiration kit at CKC.

This month we are working with Noel Mignon's Soda Shoppe Kit:

Look at all those pretty colours and little bits and pieces. Just gorgeous.

Here is my kit "Possibilities":

My kit ended up a little bolder in the colour pallete.  I started with a "Storyteller" Collection Pack from Crate Paper and then added in some older papers from my stash including Stampin' Up!, Sassafrass Lass and Basic Grey.

Here are all the papers laid out (and yes there are a lot. I think I included 23 and 1/2 sheets of patterned paper).

And some cardstock added in

And then my favourite part, the embellishments:

I can't wait to get started with the kit. I think it will be quite versatile and should definately keep me busy for the month.

Don't forget to hop over to Lynette's blog to see her March Kit.

Hope to see you all joining in the fun this month.

Getting to know The Master Forgers

Welcome, I hope you are enjoying the hop so far.

As you would have seen we had an extra special activity at the CKC blog this month for the Master Forgers.

The first step was filling out one of the journalling sheets by Christie Zimmer at Grace is Overrated

This journalling activity led me to the topic of my favourite shoes and this layout was born

The papers are really bright and fun but if you stare to long your eyes go cross-eyed (or at least that is what happens to me LOL).

Papers are by Kaisercraft (Red Polka Dot and Teal stripe) and Amy Tan (Black and White Chevron). The photo mat and journalling card are both from Fancy Pants "The Good Life" collection.

This was a fun activity to complete and it is nice to get a little bit more about me in my albums.

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know the Master Forgers a little better.

Your next stop on the hop is Lynette.

The Round Up - February

My Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit "Joy Ride" and the add-on I created were a lot of fun to work with, although I have to admit I am a little tired of blue and green right now (and I have boys -I love blue and green!!). I am so ready for next month's inspiration kit.
This month I managed to create 8 layouts from my kit. I also created some 3x4 journalling cards for my Project Life album with some of the left-over pieces and 2 birthday cards rounded out the total.

So after putting the alphabets back this is what I was left with from my original kit.

Not bad, not bad at all. I will definitely call this kit "done".

Did you manage to "kill" your kit this month?

Crafting some cards

I have cards to share today from some of the last pieces of my February Counterfeit Kit Challenge  kit "Joy Ride".

A card featuring heat embossing and the"Grunge Rock" Stamp set from
Stampin' Up!

And secondly a card with "Just Rugby"

My poor rugby man looks like he has measles - turns out there are big chunks missing out of my versamark ink pad. I will have to be more careful with my inking next time.

Strategies for Scraps Part 2

I thought it might be fun as I reach the end of my Counterfeit Challenge Kit each month to devote a post to ideas for using up all those last scraps of paper. Last month we focused on circle punches. You can see that page here.

This month I seem to have a lot of long narrow strips of paper so it was Glitter Girl to the rescue again with her video on using scraps.

I trimmed each of the strips to be just under 6 inches long (which was the length of my shortest strip), inked all the edges and then set about arranging them across the top section of my page. Once I was happy with the result I adhered them all and then added a serious of three photos across the bottom half of the page.

Then came the fun part of embellishing. I punched circles from any grey left-overs and then decided I needed a punch of green and added some small star punches. (Yes, I would be lost without my punches).

I added some Melissa Frances Vintage metal buttons, a denim button from Junkitz, a scrap of denim fabric and some brads from My Minds Eye to finish off.

By this stage of the month the original embellishments I included in my kit are generally all used up. So there is a clue for me for next month - add more embellishments!! That is one of the great things about making our own kits -we can adapt them to suit our own style and particular needs. Oh how I love scrapping with a kit.

Will you be joining us next month at Counterfeit Kit Challenge?

I also used some scraps and stamps to make some Project Life style journalling cards (now I just need to use them).

Inspired by a ..... scarf !!

The third challenge this month at Counterfeit Kit Challenge is to be inspired by a scarf.

Now I don't own many scarves so I googled scarves and came up with about a million images but then narrowed it down to this image (and unfortunately I cannot find the source now):

And here is my take on that inspiration:

If you squint you can see it LOL. I took the sunburst design and laid out patterned papers and border stickers to re-create the look on my cardstock background.

That gorgeous button came in a previous Studio Calico kit as did the speech bubble die-cut.

Having a little bowl of leftovers on my scrap table is really working for me at the moment and it helps encourage me to use those supplies rather than adding them to already full drawers.

So what about you, will you take the challenge to be inspired by a scarf??

Sea World

Hey there Scrappers!!

Time to share another layout from my February Counterfeit Challenge Blog kit "Joy Ride".

I started with a white background sheet and some Mr Hueys in Sherbert to add a splash of colour using a bubble mask from Studio Calico.

I added in some cute camera washi tape that came in January's Studio Calico kit (my last sob sob). Seriously though, so far the ban on scrapbooking purchases is going fine. I just need to avoid temptation by not going near any shops ha ha.

I finally used some stamps too.

So there you go layout number 6 from my February kit.

Blast from the Past - Love Elsie

Back in November 2006 I had the privilege of attending a class of Elsie Larson's (or Flannigan as she was known then) at the Inspiration Scrapbook Convention held at Penrith in Sydney. I attended two full days of classes but my favourite by far was Elsie's.

I loved her happy freestyle approach to scrapbooking. Her enthusiasm was contagious and she was (and still is I am sure) such a sweetie.

I was a complete scrapbook nerd and had my photo taken with Elsie as well as having her sign my copy of her book 52 Scrapbooking Challenges. Yep scrap nerd.

Which in a roundabout way brings me to the Blast From the Past item I included in my February Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit "Joy Ride" - Riley stickers from Elsie's "Love Elsie" range produced by KI Memories (circa 2007):

And yes I had the full sheet. I had not used one single little sticker. The situation had to be remedied: it called for drastic action: I needed a plan to use a LOT of stickers.

Enter the ever inspiring Shimelle Laine and her video here. Those layered embellishments were just what I needed.

3/4 of a sticker sheet later and I was happy with the finished product.

I varied some of the stickers, cutting some into little banners and layering others until each of my little squares was filled.

And I love the end result, so bright and happy and those "Love Elsie" stickers finally have a home in my album.

What "blast from the past" made it into your kit this month?

Oh the things you say....

The second challenge is up at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog and it is to use speech bubbles on a project.

The last few Studio Calico kits I received (before my self-imposed scrapbook spending freeze), I contained quite a few speech bubbles and I hadn't really used them at all so this was the perfect challenge for me.

I decided to record all the funny little things my four year old says (oh yes, he is quite a character):

I stitched about five messy circles on some lime green cardstock to start my layout, added some paper strips and washi tape plus a photo of Master 4 and then it was time to add in all those speech bubbles:

I splashed on some Mr Huey Mist in white, added my title and there you have it.

Not my favourite page design but a page I am sure I will treasure when this little man is a little older.

Happy Scrapping,

Playing Tourist

On our last trip down to visit my Aunt in Cessnock we had a few hours to spare before the drive home so we spent sometime playing tourist in Pokolbin. Pokolbin is in the heart of wine country and is dotted with Cellar doors, cheese shops, lolly shops and gorgeous cafes. The views are amazing.

I used my February Counterfeit Kit Challenge Kit "Joy Ride" to scrap two of the photos from our day out.

I added the green polka dot washi tape and puffy Amy Tangerine camera and heart stickers to finish off the page.

I still have to add my journalling to the pull out card but I know there will be more layouts from this day so I wasn't sure what story I would be adding there yet. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it (wink).

CKC Challenge 1 -Why I love

If you have visited the CKC blog today you know that the first challenge of the month is to create a page about "why you love {insert whatever it may be}", but the catch is no photos.
My whole page concept came from the lovely Amy Tangerine map print paper I had included in my February kit. It immediately made me think of travel and so my page layout and journalling came together really quickly.

I have to admit a page with no photo is something I very rarely do so it really was a challenge.

I stitched a little pocket to hold some shipping tags with lists of destinations that are on my ever-growing list of places I want to visit. I think it also gave the page a focus where usually a photo would be.

I had to get a little creative with my "E" and make it out of an "F" and "I" giggle. I guess I use to many "E"s.

I added some Love Elsie dimensional stickers and a printable from Studio Calico (the "I love this" banner).

Will you be taking up the challenge? This is the challenge for the CKC member blog hop at the end of the month so I do hope you join in.

Boxing Practice

The first layout from "Joy Ride" my February Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit came together really quickly. Love it when that happens.

A few details

I put the embossing folder to work to give the green patterned paper an extra texture. I really like that cross hatch pattern for boy layouts.

My Martha Stewart pinked circle punch died during the creation of this layout. I haven't really used it that much so I am a little disappointed that is has stopped working already. In July (when I can shop again - see here) I will look at getting some pinked circle nesting dies. It is a shape that works great for"boy"stuff. (Alternatively if my hubby reads this and would like a gift idea these would be perfect - not so subtle hint).

February Counterfeit Kit Reveal Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to a new month and new kit to counterfeit.

You should have arrived from Lisa H's blog (if not don't worry you can always click here to start at the beginning)

As you would have seen, this month at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge we are testing our forgery skills out on Scraptastic Club's Chasing Pavements Kit.

I loved the fresh lime green and shades of blue in the kit and had to duplicate them in my kit...."Joy Ride"

My papers are from Scenic Route, Amy Tan, Stampin'Up!, Kaisercraft and Echo Park. I included lime green, white and navy cardstock.

My letter stickers are Thickers from American Crafts in denim and Mini Market stickers from October Afternoon in green.

Embellishments include wood veneer arrows from Studio Calico (and some vellum ones as well), paper flags from Basic Grey, arrow washi tape, lime green and white twine, some glassine bags, tags, random diecuts left from Studio Calico kits and some co-ordinating buttons. In place of the arrow stickers I have included a sheet of stickers from Love Elsie.

Now since this kit only included 6 patterned papers and my thickers were pretty well picked over,  I decided to create an add on kit as well this month.

Papers are from K & Co, Stampin' Up!, Chatterbox and Amy Tan. I included some kraft and grey cardstock , extra lettering options and some label and border stickers from Stampin' Up!.

This month I also decided to get out some stamps and other tools that I thought would work with my kit.

The stamps are all from Studio Calico and the embossing folders from Stampin' Up! Some of those stamps haven't seen ink at all so I would really like to make use of them this month.

Your next stop on the reveal blog hop is Lynette.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will join in the challenge this month.

The Round Up

My January Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit, Candycane Kisses, is officially done and dusted.

The last few embellishments and letter stickers have been returned to their respective homes and the tiny scraps of paper that remained have made their way to the kids' craft box.

So what was the final tally from this kit: 9 layouts and 2 sets of divided pages for my Christmas Album from 2011 and one card.

I am thrilled to see that many pages created and in my album and some unloved supplies used at last.

I can't wait for February so we can start all over again.

Happy Australia Day everyone.

We truly are the lucky country and today is a great day to celebrate that with family and friends.

While I have to work today, tonight we will be by the pool enjoying a bbq and a few cold drinks.

January CKC Challenge 1 Blog Hop

Hello and welcome.

I hope you are enjoying the hop so far. If you have missed any be sure to start here at the Counterfeit Kit Blog and work your way through - you don't want to miss any of the inspiration.

Now, by the time I decided to play along with this challenge my January kit was reduced to a little bag of scraps so the natural (and only) choice was to make a card to fit the challenge criteria:

I have used:
3 patterned papers - polka dot, merry christmas print and blue snowflakes all from My Minds Eye
3 embellishments - bakers twine, red bling and a staple (a staple counts right!)
3 word title (or in my case sentiment) - "Happy Christmas Mate!"

plus a cute Santa stamp from Stampin' Up!.

Your next stop on the hop is Rebecca. Enjoy.

Another day in Paradise

Hi guys,

I played along with the ScrapFit colour inspiration workout for this month.

Here is the gorgeous inspiration photo

Very calm and serene!

And here is my take on the challenge

Some more photos for my Fiji album (wow that is like 2 whole pages in 11 months now- better slow down wink)

The journalling reads:

"Beautiful weather, soaking in the pool, a short stroll along the beach to an amazing buffet dinner and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I could get used to this. Fiji Shangri-La".

I used a background sheet from Stampin' Up! (It was a travel collection that featured orange, navy and kraft) and my bottomless box of paper scraps to assemble the base of the layout.

I then went searching for embellishments in co-ordinating colours. I am seriously considering re-sorting my embellishments into colour groups rather than by type. It seems to be the way I look for things lately eg I need something "blue" for that corner rather than I need a brad. Not sure which way to go there. It could be an interesting weekend project.

How do you store your embellishments? Do you have any tips??
